Tibial tuberosity fractures

The tibial tuberosity is a boney protrusion at the top of the tibia where the patellar ligaments attach. Fracture of this area is usually caused by trauma.

Affected horses are usually lame with pain on palpation and swelling around the area.

Diagnosis

X-rays are required for diagnosis and to assess treatment options.

Treatment

This fracture can usually be treated surgically.
