Patellar fractures
Fractures of the patellar usually occur following trauma, e.g. a kick, fall, etc. Most cases will show a sudden, severe lameness with pain on palpation, heat and swelling around the stifle.
Diagnosis
X-rays are required for diagnosis and to assess treatment options.
Treatment
Fractures that don’t involve the joint can be treated with box rest, however, those that involve the joint must be treated surgically under a general anaesthetic.
