Pastern
Introduction
Lameness coming from the pastern region is relatively uncommon, however, there are important structures within this region that can become damaged especially after a wound or trauma.
The pastern joint is formed between the short pastern bone (second phalanx) and the long pastern bone (first phalanx). Other important structures at the back of the pastern are the flexor tendons and the digital sheath, conditions involving these structures can be found in the canon section.
