Flexural deformity
This is usually a congenital condition seen in young foals but can occasionally occur in older animals and is often known as contracted tendons, as the joint is unable to straighten properly.
Treatment
Mild cases will often resolve on their own, however, some animals require immobilization (bandage/cast).
Severe cases in older animals are occasionally surgically treated by reducing the forces on the fetlock by cutting the check ligament, superficial flexor tendon or suspensory ligament.
